The intersection of Popular Culture and Religion may not be highlighted all the time, but it is definitely present.

Listening to Keeping It 101: Religion & Pop Culture & Why We Care, they reference the book/film Not Without My Daughter and the negative stereotypical representation of Muslims in the film. This intersection of the two utilizes popular culture but gives the viewer a bias-negative image of a specific religion.

Another example would be the anime Neon Genesis Evangelion. Although it doesn’t utilize religion the same way that Not Without My Daughter does, it still is influenced by religion and has religious components throughout the series. For example, the creatures that invade Earth are called Angels and the first “Angel” that came to Earth is referred to as Adam, which in Christianity is the first Human created by God. The show doesn’t try to give viewers an idea of what a “Christian” looks like but still uses components of Christianity (such as names from the Bible and the idea of Angels).
